Abstract: In this journal article, Wadie Majm, M.D., assistant clinical professor of family medicine and geriatrics in the College of Medicine at the University of California at Irvine, was interviewed on the latest developments in complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) to treat Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Majm discusses many aspects of unconventional treatments, including the pros and cons of various alternative therapies and promising areas that need further investigation. He also highlights the effectiveness of these therapies in treating various behavioral symptoms associated with AD, including agitation, anxiety, and depression. In this interview, Dr. Majm repeatedly cites the lack of conclusive evidence regarding the usefulness of CAM therapies in AD patients. Dr. Majm urges the consumer to discuss complementary and alternative medicines with his or her doctor regarding effectiveness, side effects, and drug interactions. With further research and scientific evidence proving effectiveness and safety, he predicts complementary and alternative medicines will become more accepted by the scientific and medical communities.
