Abstract: This report updates the 2002 edition and presents clinical practice guidelines for the assessment and management of people with Alzheimer's disease (AD). The guidelines provide a practical management approach encompassing medical, pharmacological, nonpharmacological and psychosocial interventions based on evidence from the literature and expert consensus. The report is organized into sections addressing four major care issues: assessment, treatment options (including the latest drug therapies approved by the Food and Drug Administration), patient and caregiver education and support, and reporting and legal requirements. Each section includes an overview of the issue, a list of quality care recommendations, and a review of the literature to support the recommendations. Assessment tools and forms, including a caregiver self-assessment questionnaire, are provided, as well as websites and links to other online documents. Tables, references.
