Abstract: Mental stimulation has been found to offer demonstrable benefits for people with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or other memory impairment. This book is designed to help family members and caregivers engage adults with memory loss in simple, enjoyable activities that provide stimulation and enhance communication. The large-format color picture book is divided into themes representing the four seasons. Each section has several color photographs illustrating simple, common experiences, such as picking apples or raking leaves, that evoke memories of that season. The photographs are accompanied by related suggestions for topics of discussion and activities to elicit memories and encourage new positive associations. The book uses an enriched, multi-sensory approach, so that the experiences are explored using all five senses. This approach facilitates connections and conversations with memory-impaired persons across a wide range of cognitive function. The book also provides guidance on using the book successfully with loved ones or clients.
