Abstract: This interactive picture book is to be shared between a family or professional caregiver and a person with memory loss to encourage meaningful emotional connection and conversation through therapeutic brain stimulation. Twenty-seven full-color photographs portray an array of easily recognized emotions and activities such as joy, sadness, surprise, contentment, stubbornness, unexpected encounters, nurturing family interactions, and more. Using the principles of sensory integration (the process by which the body’s nervous system takes in information and then organizes it for meaningful daily use), the photographs are designed to trigger multiple and varied sensory reactions, including visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, gustatory, and others. Let’s Look Together can be used one-on-one or in groups, at home or in formal care settings ranging from adult day services to nursing homes and hospitals. The book includes a user guide with tips for sharing the book with someone with cognitive impairment, guidelines for successful communication, and suggestions for using the book with groups.
